Gambling has been considered as a relatively homogeneous group among our society. And did you know depending on the nature of gambling activity whether its land-based or online gambling there is the existence of gender variations of habits?
There have rarely been any evidence studies based on the topic of gender differences behavioral habits among gamblers. But after careful research, OMNI GAMING has found a more supportive independent research (focused in Australia specific) by (Delfabbro et al. 2007; Thomas et al. 2013) which has the potential to strengthen the validity of finds, which can be generally applied to both male and female gamblers.

The first survey was done by Delfabbro during 2007, the second survey was in 2013 by Thomas, two surveys combined have the total amount of 1185 participants, out of all the participants 580 were male and 605 were female. Each survey included the measures of frequency and the type of gambling each participant gambled in over the previous 12 months.
Gambling Habits
Duration and Intensity
Through the survey results, between regular male and female gamblers, men lean more towards gambling intensively. 74.1% of men gamble every day of the week. They also enjoy gambling on 2 or more machines at the same time, and they gamble continuously and significantly increases in expenditure pattern.

However, an engaging result of female gamblers having a longer duration when they gamble, up to 79.5% of females can gamble for 5 hours without a break that’s over 15 min or more. But a fascinating factor that both genders are equally the same when it comes to playing on quickly after wins and spending more than $300 in a session.
Women tend to gamble on a narrower range of activities than men and are less likely to gamble on strategic games such as casino table games and sports or horse wagering. Women typically start gambling later in life than men and typically gambles with lower intensity.

Impaired Control
Controlling the urge to gamble has been a challenging aspect for gamblers, which is why both men and women gamblers often gamble during lunch break or even at dinner time and would obsessively persist to win on a specific gambling machine. In comparison, men have more frequent difficulties when it comes to stopping gambling at closing time.
Men gamblers like to place a greater emphasis on applying skills when they gamble, they will try to win over the machine. By such beliefs, the desire and expectation to win are much stronger, and often feel cheated or frustrated when they lose.
Perhaps the reason why they find it extremely difficult to leave even when the casino is near its closing hours. But it also has a relation to self-serving bias and hindsight bias, to understand more of what “Self-Serving Bias and Hindsight Bias” is, there is more information about it here.

Clutching Money to Gamble
Majority of men and women gamblers cash out at ATM on 2 occasions during a single session of wager and men have a higher chance to borrow money from people at venues. Unexpectedly female gamblers have a higher tendency of putting large win amounts back into the machine and continue to play.
Reasonably why female gamblers have also up to 97.6% of running out of all the money in their purse when they leave. But overall both male and female gamblers will always rummage around their purse or wallet for additional money.

Summary
We hope by identifying the gender habits of nature could provide a wider insight into how men and women experience gambling and apply the right strategy with different approaches for a selected group.
